Domaine Durieu is located in the heart of the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and was created by Paul Durieu in 1976. I think a little history is worthwhile here, as it will give context to not only the wines but in some cases to their names also. At the time he owned a few plots in Plan de Dieu and Côtes du Rhône, inherited from his father Henri and some Châteauneuf-du-Pape vines predating WW1, inherited from his mother Lucille Avril.

The next chapter in this story begins in 2004, when his sons Vincent and Francois took over from their father. While keeping a keen eye on quality and the preservation of their terroir, the brothers have managed to bring a fresh dynamic to their now 37 hectares of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Their priority was to create wines that reflect not only the balanced patchwork of their terroir but also the intrinsic aromas and freshness of their grapes. As a result, they have been able to develop highly characteristic and complex wines.

Durieu are one of the greatest finds in my wine journey of discovery and it is with great privilege that Neeche Wines are able to present to you Domaine Durieu.

If you ever have the good fortune to visit them, please make sure that you ask to speak to Pierre who is perhaps the most knowledgeable and charismatic person that I have ever spoken to about wine.
