Sforzato Di Valtellina DOCG 2014
£29.50
Le Strie vineyards are located in the Valtellina Superiore DOCG vine-growing area. Due to the altitude, the temperatures are cooler which results in a very elegant Nebbiolo with elegant spicy notes and a medium tannin. The terraces on which the vines grow and the steep slope exposure that they receive give this Nebbiolo very interesting characteristics making this a variety that you will surely want to savour.
For the best way to experience this fabulous appellation, we recommend a serving temperature of 18°C and to use big stem glasses in order for its true nature to express itself. Ideally, use a decanter to avoid the deposit that you may find at the bottom but this will also allow the wine to breathe. These are wines that age with grace and character.
Sforzato is Le Strie’s fourth vintage using carefully selected Nebbiolo grapes from their vineyards located in Castione Andevenno of which Sondrio Commune (20%) and Teglio Commune (80%). All the vineyards are grown to the Guyot method standards, bearing 8-10 buds per cane. Keeping the grape yield low is essential for producing high quality wines. Hand-picked early in October, the grapes are left to dry in cellars until the end of December.
The Sforzato is deep ruby red in colour with hints of orange. Has notes of ripe red fruit, spices, and liquorice. It is dry and rich in texture, round, slightly tannic with a long finish.
