Meet Luc Fonta, Mr Ecosystem himself. A dreamer or a visionary…? Only time will be the judge of that but I for one will never forget the day I met Luc because he was the quintessential vintner that I was looking for.
It was 2016, in the Languedoc region near Montpellier, when Luc made the radical choice to turn his back on his career in order to pursue his true passion: Making wine in harmony with nature. Using agroecology and agroforestry to produce healthy and natural grapes.
So was born Les 3 Mazets. Viticulture on living soil, to create a cycle of biology as it was meant to be. Revive the life of the soil, generate biodiversity, protect water resources and sequester carbon. Could this be done, to go against centuries old wine making methods and create astounding wine?

Well in 2020, Luc produced his first cuvée, a red wine without added sulphites. Without treating the vines with copper and sulphur. A vineyard working in tandem with mother nature. To many people’s surprise, this first vintage was met with rave reviews. The guy least likely to succeed, who swam alone against a huge tide of opposition and difficulty, is now one of the leading lights of this new movement. Today he is invited to give talks at seminars on the subject and to show people how he was able to succeed with his methods.
He still has only a few small parcels of land, and his production is very limited so to have any of his wine is a real coup for me and it is with great pride that Neeche Wines can offer you a sample of Les 3 Mazets’ miracle in a bottle. (read my blog for the full story)
